One of my favorite subjects to photograph is a baby!
I remember when my Evan, who is now 9, observed at 3 years old how much I love babies. We were at the Kalahari in Wisconsin Dells when I walked by a newborn (I could tell from that distinct cry) and must have said or done something. Evan looked up at me and said, “Mom, you love babies.” I had Nolan and Evan and wasn’t sure there would be another, then days later found out about the upcoming 3rd, our Calvin.
Evan was right, I do love babies! And I love it when a family chooses me to capture these new days. Something I really regret not doing with my own babes. They change so much within the first few weeks, I would encourage every parent to invest in newborn photos (before baby is a week old), even if you are too tired or feel less than beautiful. Let me do all the work, and new moms are beautiful 🙂
I offer parents the opportunity to have either a lifestyle session or studio portraits with their newborns. Sometimes I can combine the two as well. Here, Pierce was photographed in his own home. I love both, but in the home you can capture the things that will change just as quickly as your child, like the paint coloring or the crib coming down and the changing table given to your friend or sister who is having her first child.
Along with newborn photos, I do make myself available for a couple of birth sessions in a year. If you are interested or know anyone who might be, please send them my way!
